Ogun Speaks

With hammer and with forge I come to you,
Bestowing tools for tasks that men must do.
I bring to you the magick of machines,
Concerned not with the ends, but with the means.
I come to civilize the wilderness,
And beat back all the jungle’s fetid press.
I speak to you of work and war and death
In whispers borne on brave ancestral breath.
So do not fix on me the solid blame
If you dislike the content of the news;
I gave to each of you the steel and flame,
But what you did with them was yours to choose.
As you are all my children, know my name…
