Candle Magick
Candles may be used in magickal spells as either the focus of the spell or as a component that sets the spell’s overall mood and tone. As a focus point, the practitioner can manipulate the candle. Lighting the candle represents igniting the energy; carving he candle indicates the intention of the user; and pinning the candle marks the melting spot at which the magick will be released (kind of like and X marking the spot on a treasure map.)
The symbolic value of the candle goes further. The flame represents the element of fire, which in turn signifies inspiration, passion, energy and cleansing. Spells that require a fire source as a focus or component can easily be cast wit a candle instead of a full-blown bonfire.
Witches also anoint candles with various oils and consider each candle’s color, which should correspond to the goals of specific spells. For example, a pink candle might be chosen for a friendship spell because pink is a gentler form of red, which usually represents passion. As for aromatic oils, the ancients associated sweet pea sent with friendly energy, and the sent of pineapples with hospitality.
