In Praise of Brigid
To Brigid we give thanks for hearth and flame,
That keep us warm through winter’s bitter cold,
An outward sign of inspiration’s light.
To Brigid we give thanks for fair acclaim,
That scholars value more than mead or gold,
A feast to sate the sharp mind’s appetite.
To Brigid we give thanks for forge and steel,
A wealth of metal terrible and bright.
To Brigid we give thanks for herbs that heal,
That calm the fever’s heat and banish blight,
A blessing that we welcome in her name.
We lift our praises to her sign and seal
Before her altar, in her candlelight.
